V.A. - Trojan Bob Marley & Friends Box Set [ 3CD ]
El primero de los cedeses, se lo dedican al subsello RAS, especializado en un reggae modernillo de los ‘90 y los dosmiles, pero podemos destacar las versiones canciones de pelis como El Libro de la Selva por Tony Rebel, los Tres Cerditos por Peter Broggs, Dumbo por Gregory Isaacs. También me ha gustado las versiones que hace Gregory Isaacs de Puff the Magic Dragon (original de Peter, Paul & Mary) y de Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) (de Harry Belafonte), y una curiosa versión del Three little birds de Bob Marley por Freddie McGregor acompañado de un coro de niños.
Mucho más interesante es el segundo CD, del que la mayoría de canciones pertenecen a la década de los ‘60. Predominan las versiones ska y rocksteady de canciones tradicionales y composiciones contando historias aptas para todos los públicos. De aquí destacan Solomon a Gundie y Simple Simon (por Eric “Monty” Morris), Three blind mice (por Leo Graham), Humpty Dumpty (por David Isaacs), Old McDonald Ska (por The Granville Williams Orchestra), Little Nut Tree (The Melodians).
El tercer CD es el que tiene las cosas más bizarras: canciones con voces pitufadas al estilo Alvin y sus Ardillas, Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep (original de Middle of The Road) por The Jay Boys y English chicken por Lascelles Perkins; y una version del My boy lollipop con una voz todavía más infantil que la de Millie Small, por Pam Hall. Aunque también tiene cosas cojonudas: la versión de The lion sleep tonight (de The Tremeloes) por Glen Adams, la canción de Popeye por The Granville Williams Orchestra, Lonely Goat Regay por Tommy McCook & The Supersonics, el Sugar sugar (de The Archies) relentizado por The Silverstones, Yakety yak (de The Coasters) por Desmond Dekker, el Reloj del Abuelo por Ernest Ranglin. En resumen, una caja con unos altos muy altos y unos bajos cuando menos curiosos.
